Volunteer
Seva is the whole point.
This society has no staff. Everything that happens, happens because somebody gave their time. You do not need to be Sikh, and you do not need to know anything in advance.
What needs doing
You do not have to choose now. This is just so you know what exists.
Setting up and clearing
Chairs, tables, sound, and the two hours of clearing away that nobody volunteers for.
Kirtan and music
Play or sing at a gathering, at whatever level you are at. You will not be auditioned.
Teaching
Punjabi, Gurmukhi, kirtan or history. If you can teach it, we would like to talk to you.
Speaking and outreach
Going into schools and community groups to answer questions about the Sikh faith.
Coordinating
Holding the list, booking the hall, confirming numbers the night before. Suits someone organised.
What actually happens when you say yes

You send a note
Your name, roughly when you are free, and what you would like to help with. That is all we need.

We reply
With the next dates and what each one involves. We are volunteers too, so allow us a few days.

You come to one
You will be paired with somebody who has done it before. Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind marking.

You decide afterwards
Nobody will chase you. If it was not for you, that is a completely normal outcome.
Bringing a group
Families, workplaces, student societies and other congregations are all welcome to come and do seva with us. Give us a fortnight of notice and tell us how many of you there are, so we can size the event to the hands available rather than the other way round.
Group volunteering notes
- Around four people is the smallest group that really helps
- Most group sessions are kitchen work or setting up, which are the easiest to supervise
- We can sign off volunteer hours for students where the school gives us a form
- We do not charge for hosting a group and we will not ask you for a donation in exchange
- You do not have to be Sikh, and nobody will be asked to take part in the prayers
